Being an inter-media artist entails, not only cleaning the bike shoppe over the last few days with Scarlett, Baby Willis, and Travis Machine. Witnessing the lovely and capable Ms. Oliva along with Ben Woolf create a bike powered cement mixer for their awesome community project in Braddock, Pa—-but also performing in other ways….tonight I helped turn ordinary crates into vip seating for the totally oversold and standing room only performance of Ahoya (3).
Here’s the invite to my next stage procenium based performance:
Witness the above picture of rehearsal projected on the outdoor shed in Chance. The performance is based on our perceptions of time travel and outer space interaction.
(((You might remember The Near East family band by a different name. Last year they helped me and Aaron Goldsmith compose SK5, the house band for Ahoy 2.0.)))
Now for Tara’s Letter:
Dear Friends,
Near East Family is performing in New Dance Alliance’s Performance Mix Festival at Joyce SoHo this Wednesday April 14, at 8pm.
We will be premiering a new work, Chrononaut Detritus. It is an interpretation of a graphic score for multi- media, inspired by colorful modern accounts of space/time exploration. We will be working with a live feed camera, live image processing, live, original music and live dance. The piece was collaboratively created by the performers:
David Gladden: video design and processing.
Tara Gladden: voice and laptop.
Lauren Larken: movement and live image capture.
Ian Wen: dance.
Clinton Wilkins: guitar.
The Performance Mix Festival is an amazing festival devoted to presenting work that explores the convergence of dance, music, video and performance. It will feature artists from NYC and the World. I’ve included the complete festival calendar below. We hope to see you there!
Very best,
Near East Family
